Phil Campbell Bobcat teams get tourney wins

The Phil Campbell Bobcats girls and boys picked up a pair of tournament wins this past week.

GIRLS

The varsity girls got a big win over one of the top Class 1A teams in the state, Marion County, finishing 50-42 in the Lauderdale County Invitational.

Phil Campbell led Marion County 13-8 at the end of the first quarter and extended that lead to 29-18 at halftime.

The Red Raiders stormed back in the third quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 13-4 and cutting Phil Campbell’s lead to 33-31. Phil Campbell used a strong fourth quarter to stop the surge and pick up the win.

Madison Branch led the Bobcats with 23 points. She scored seven in the first, six in the second, four in the third and six in the fourth.

Macy Hardy hit a pair of three pointers and scored 10 points. Sidda Rogers added eight points, Kaylie Motes had five points and Allie Herring and Hannah Welborn added two points each.

The Bobcats lost two tournament games – to Wilson and West Limestone.

BOYS

The varsity boys traveled to Pigeon Forge and beat the home team on their own court. Quentin Hyde had a big game for the Bobcats, scoring 27 points.

Pigeon Forge led 14-12 at the end of the first quarter, but the Bobcats took the lead at halftime, 26-24. Phil Campbell held onto a close lead at the end of the third quarter, 42-39, and held off the home team in the fourth quarter for the win.

Cole Pace and Hyde had big fourth quarters to help the Bobcats to the win, scoring seven points each to combine for 14 of Phil Campbell’s 17 points.

Pace had 12 points in the game. He was followed by Cam Habada, who scored 10 points. Kyle Pace added seven points, Bryant Hyde three points and Sage Raper two points.

The Bobcats lost two other games in the tournament to teams from Kentucky.
