Council sets Dec. 23 to promote Russellville spending
As part of an initiative to encourage spending in the city, the Russellville City Council passed a resolution during its Dec. 5 meeting to designate Dec. 23 as “Spend $23 in Russellville Day.”
The resolution states studies have shown that if each person spent $23 at a City of Russellville business in a given day, overall revenue could increase by as much as 60 percent.
“It’s really important to encourage everyone to shop local,” explained Russellville Mayor David Grissom, who noted the council hopes everyone will spend “at least $23” in Russellville that day.
He said it adds up to a positive impact by supporting the city and local economy.
“Shopping in the city limits not only supports our local merchants but also generates tax dollars that help fund our police, fire and street departments, as well as Russellville Parks and Rec and the Russellville City Schools system,” Grissom said, “so, please consider doing that as much as possible by shopping in our city retail businesses, eating in our city restaurants and purchasing fuel from our city convenience stores.”
