Phil Campbell gets pair of wins over Tharptown

Two seniors helped lead the Phil Campbell Bobcats over the Tharptown Wildcats Friday night in a pair of wins. Bryant Hyde scored 30 points to lead the varsity boys, and Madison Branch scored 24 points to lead the varsity girls.

BOYS

In the varsity boys game, Hyde made four three-pointers, including one at the buzzer to stop a Tharptown third-quarter rally.

Phil Campbell held Tharptown to two points for much of the first quarter and led 16-4 at the end of the quarter.

The Bobcats added to their lead in the second quarter, outscoring Tharptown 23-16 to take a 39-20 halftime lead.

The Wildcats outscored the Bobcats 15-9 in the third quarter to cut the lead to 48-35; Phil Campbell, however, dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring Tharptown 20-6 to cruise to the win.

Sage Raper followed Hyde with 12 points. Kyle Pace added eight points, Quentin Hyde six points, Gage Baker five points, Canaan Clay four points and Clay Morgan three points.

Malachi Minor led Tharptown with 16 points. He was followed by Edwin Vela with nine points, Hunter Motes with six points, Dylan Valdez with six points, Dawson Higgins with two points and Jared Sales with two points.

GIRLS

In the varsity girls game, Phil Campbell opened up a 17-9 first quarter lead. Branch scored nine of the Bobcats’ first-quarter points, including going five-for-seven from the free throw line.

The Bobcat girls extended their lead to 30-20 at halftime and stretched it even further to 48-24 in the third quarter.

Macy Hardy followed Branch in scoring with 10 points. Hannah Welborn added eight points. Ally Herring scored five points, Sidda Rogers three points, Kaylie Motes two points and Ayla Stowe with two points.

Autumn Montgomery led Tharptown with 11 points. She was followed by Kaitlyn Simmons with nine points, Sarah Mansell with eight points, Savannah Romans with eight points and Kyndall Morgan with two points.
