Basketball season overview: Red Bay Tigers

Jon Torisky is used to having to replenish the Red Bay roster and mold it into a winner. This year, Torisky will have another go at it. With only one senior, what Torisky is building now could last for a while.

“We have a good group of young guys who are ready to get on the court and have fun,” said Torisky. “We have only one senior, B.P. Blair. He was a solid scorer for us last year and plays hard on defense. He will have to take the reins and lead this team.”

The Tigers have enjoyed success under the tutelage of Torkisky. This year’s team has the potential to be one of his best.

“I’m excited about this group,” said Torisky. “They play hard, they are coachable, and they want to win.”

The Tigers have six juniors and three sophomores on the roster to go along with Blair. Several of the juniors got significant playing time this past year, which adds to Torisky’s excitement.

“We are not in total rebuilding mold,” said Torisky. “We have some guys with experience. They just need to play together and develop chemistry on the court. If they stay focused, they can do something special together.”

The Tiger juniors are Ethan McCoy, Holden Inmon, Kennedy Wilemon, Cody Carnes, Gage Edgmon, and Lawson Glover. Sophomores include Ty Reynolds, Jeremiah Robinson and Connor Humphries.

Red Bay competes in Class 2A, Area 10, with Lamar County, Sulligent and Winston County.

The Red Bay girls basketball team has the potential to make some noise in the county and area this year.

The Tigers return five players who saw significant playing time this past year in Julianna Eaton, Jaycee Vinson, Madaline Ledbetter, Shelby Nichols and Kaylie Lindley.

They have the size in the post and good guard play on the perimeter to match up with most teams they play.

Red Bay will rely on solid defense and rebounding the basketball.

The Tigers made significant improvements as the season progressed this past year under new head coach Carley Hellums.

Red Bay is a storied program and is looking to return to compete for a county championship and return to post-season play.
