Local runners compete in cross-country sectionals

County cross-country teams competed in the sectional meet in Madison at the end of October, with four runners qualifying for the state meet at Oakville on Saturday.

In the Class 1A-2A girls division, Tharptown’s Abby Wilson finished second overall with a time of 21:25.69.

In the Class 3A girls division, Phil Campbell’s Hannah Welborn qualified for state, finishing in 15th place with a time of 25:15.09.

In the Class 1A-2A boys division, Tharptown’s Edwin Vela qualified for state, finishing eighth overall with a time of 18:44.57. Tharptown’s Ricardo Hernandez qualified for state as well, finishing 15th with a time of 19:28.62.

In the Class 5A boys division, Russellville’s Yamilson Velasquez qualified for state, finishing in 10th place with a time of 17:30.62.
