Looking ahead: Friday night brings big home games for three county teams

Tharptown at Sheffield

After an off week, Tharptown will travel to Sheffield to play the Bulldogs Thursday night. The Wildcats are 0-4 against the Bulldogs.

This game looks better for Tharptown than it did at the beginning of the season; however, it will still be a tough task.

Sheffield took a bad loss to Hatton this past week. That ended a threegame win streak against Tanner, Waterloo and Cherokee.

Tharptown lost this game this past year 47-0.

Phil Campbell hosts Colbert Heights

The Phil Campbell Bobcats will play their last home game this week, and it will be a big one. The Bobcats will host the Colbert Heights Wildcats with a shot at the playoffs on the line.

The Bobcats and Wildcats have had some epic battles lately. Phil Campbell holds a slight edge historically with a 15-13 record. The two teams have played each other six straight years, with the Wildcats winning four of those.

Phil Campbell won this game easily this past year, 42-7.

The Bobcats lost badly to a very good Mars Hill team this past week, 56-0. Colbert Heights lost to Colbert County 28-12.

Injures have mounted up on the Bobcats. They will need their best effort Friday night if they want postseason play.

Red Bay hosts Tanner

After taking a tough loss to Falkville 28-6, Red Bay will host Tanner this week.

This looked to be a tough game for the Tigers early in the season, but at this point, Red Bay should have the advantage over the Rattlers, who lost their past two games – to Lexington and Hatton – by a combined score of 102-33.

Historically, this has been a good series, with the Rattlers holding a slight edge 11-9-1. The two teams haven’t met since 2019, when Red Bay won 50-21.

Red Bay needs this game to keep slim playoff hopes alive.

Russellville at Ardmore

The Golden Tigers will be back in action on the road at Ardmore for a regional contest.

Russellville had an off week this past week and is now ready for the playoff run. Ardmore lost its past two games: to Fairview and West Point.

The last time Russellville lost to Ardmore was 1937, 9-0. The two didn’t play again until 2014, when Russellville took that 1937 loss to heart and went on to destroy Ardmore six straight times by a combined score of 278-39. Russellville won this past year 51-0.

Vina hosts Meek

This will be a tough one for Vina.  The Red Devils have yet to win a game. Meek is undefeated, and no one has come close to beating them.

The last time these two teams were pitted against each other was in 2017, and Vina lost that game 47-14. The Red Devils are 8-12-2 historically against the Tigers.
