Volleyball area tourneys begin this week

Volleyball season starts to wind down this week as area tournaments begin. The top two teams from each area will advance to the Super Regionals in Huntsville next week.

Belgreen will host the Class 1A Area 15 tournament Oct. 12. Belgreen is in a three-team area and will automatically advance to the Super Regional. Hackleburg and Phillips will play at 2 p.m. with the championship game at 3:30 p.m.

The Class 3A Area 15 tournament will also be Oct. 12, with Colbert County hosting. Phil Campbell will play Colbert County, and the winner will play Colbert Heights.

Hatton will host the Class 2A Area 15 tournament Oct. 13. Tharptown, Hatton, Mars Hill, Lexington and Sheffield are all in this area. Tharptown will play at 2 p.m.

Lamar County will host the Class 2A Area 11 tournament, also Oct. 13. Red Bay will play Winston County at 5:30 p.m. If the Tigers win, they will play the winner of Lamar County and Sulligent.
