RBHS ag teacher receives Honorary American FFA Degree

“In recognition of your outstanding contributions to supporting the next generation of leaders, it is our pleasure to award you the Honorary American FFA Degree.”

Thus begins the letter received by Red Bay High School agriculture teacher Jarod Massey, notifying him of his selection.

The letter explains Massey will be honored for “outstanding contributions” during the 95th National FFA Convention and Expo this October. Each year, the National FFA Organization recognizes individuals who have provided exceptional support of school-based agricultural education and the FFA.

Scott Stump, CEO of the National FFA organization and foundation, sent the letter, which continues, in part:

“The National FFA Organization continues to grow and make a difference in the lives of our members nationwide thanks to dedicated and outstanding individuals like you. It is our honor to recognize your support of FFA and agricultural education publicly.”

The Honorary American FFA Degree is the highest degree bestowed upon an individual by the National Future Farmers of America Organization. It stands in recognition of contributions to agriculture and agricultural education, as well as FFA, at the national level.

“I truly enjoy getting to work with young people and getting to be part of Red Bay school and the Franklin County Schools system,” Massey said. “It is an honor to receive this recognition.”

Massey is also a Red Bay city councilman.
