Friday night brings Homecoming, region games

It’s Homecoming week in Red Bay. The Tigers will step out of region play and host the Hackleburg Panthers. Russellville hosts East Limestone. Tharptown and Vina take long road trips to Lexington and Woodville. Phil Campbell is off this week.

Phil Campbell 

Phil Campbell will return to action next week, hosting Carbon Hill for Homecoming.

Red Bay 

Red Bay was scheduled to host upstart Lindsay Lane for a region game and homecoming this week. Not having enough players to field a team, Lindsay Lane had to cancel the season. Red Bay picked up Hackleburg as a replacement game.

The Panthers are off to a rough start, still looking for their first win. They have losses to Phil Campbell, Meek and Addison.

Red Bay and Hackleburg have a competitive history, with the Tigers holding a 28-23-1 all-time record. The two teams have only played twice this century: in 2006 and 2007. Hackleburg won the 2006 matchup 20-14. Red Bay turned the table the next year, blowing out the Panthers 45-18.

Russellville

After starting the season off with two losses, things have gotten easier for the Golden Tigers since stepping into region play. Russellville is coming off two easy wins, and it shouldn’t be any different this week.

East Limestone is coming off two straight region losses: to Fairview (42-14) and Brewer (27-21). Russellville has dominated this series with a record of 10-2. The Golden Tigers won this past year 42-0. T

Tharptown

Things have been rough on the Wildcats since entering region play, and it doesn’t get any easier this week.

Lexington is arguably the best team in the Wildcats’ region, with two easy wins over Colbert Heights and Red Bay. Their only loss was 29-28 to Pisgah, a very good football team.

Tharptown lost to the Golden Bears 67-0 this past year.

Lexington returns 20 seniors from this past year’s squad.

Vina 

Vina steps out of region play this week to travel to Woodville.

The Red Devils lost to Shoals Christian this past week after a tough second half. Woodville has yet to win a game and hasn’t come within four touchdowns against their three opponents, Whitesburg Christian, Cedar Bluff and Appalachian.

Vina and Woodville have only played each other twice. The last time they played was in 2015, and the Red Devils won handily, 56-6.
