SSA selects Dr. Heath Grimes as president-elect

Russellville City Schools Superintendent Dr. Heath Grimes has been chosen as president-elect of the School Superintendents of Alabama.

He will serve as president-elect for a year before becoming president.

“I’m honored to be chosen by the organization and my peers to serve in this capacity,” said Grimes.

As part of his new role, he attended the School Superintendents Association conference in Washington this past month.

He has met with government leaders, including Congressmen Gary Palmer and Robert Aderholt, as well as representatives for Sens. Richard Shelby and Tommy Tuberville, to advocate on behalf of Alabama students and learn more about matters such as IDEA funding, federal child nutrition access, school safety, mental health supports and more.

“It is a huge honor,” added Grimes. “I’ve worked with lawmakers and the Alabama State Department of Education for several years now, and they know who I am and what I stand for. I’m proud to represent Russellville and my peers in this role.”
