FC Commission changes two polling places

The Franklin County Commission approved the following polling location changes during its regular meeting July 18:

  • Frankfort precinct has been moved from Frankfort Community Center to the fellowship hall at Frankfort Missionary Baptist Church. The change is because of maintenance issues to be repaired at a date yet to be determined. No public hearing was needed because the Frankfort polling place is staying within the precinct itself.
  • Waco Polling Center was created by combining the Waco and Newburg precincts. A public hearing on this matter took place, and people in attendance agreed with the move. The polling place for the Newburg Precinct was previously Macedonia Baptist Church, which has now closed.

The Board of Registrars will send out cards. Signs will be posted at the old and new locations.

Among other business items, the commission also approved:

  • A retiree lump sum payment of an estimated $33,940 to be divided among 65 employees. It will be paid for from the budget of whichever department they worked in.
  • Advertisement for an assistant county engineer. According to the commission, they will likely make a recommendation at the September meeting, to be effective starting in October.
