RFD responds to downtown structure fire

The Russellville Fire Department responded to a structure fire on North Washington Avenue between Cotaco Street and West Gandy Street in downtown Russellville Thursday afternoon.

“We had a call to a garage that was a total loss,” explained RFD Lt. Jeremy Glenn. “It went through 911, and we were dispatched. Nobody was hurt.”

Glenn estimated the call came “somewhere around 1 p.m.” and said nobody was home at the time.

The garage and storage building located directly behind it were mostly destroyed in the fire. The structures are on the property of a house that suffered minimal damage in the incident.

“It’s still under investigation at this time,” reported Glenn.

“It melted the siding on the house. The structures were very close to it,” he said. “The house behind the structures got a little melting of the siding, but the garage and storage building were a total loss. The house itself was saved, and I think that’s due to the quick action of our guys.”
