Blue Springs VFD holds Furr Fest fundraiser

Food, fun and fundraising to help Franklin County strays are all part of the plans for Blue Springs Volunteer Fire Department’s Furr Fest June 18, from noon to 6 p.m.

Hamburgers and hot dogs will be cooked and sold on site, and a bake sale will also be part of the festivities.

Dog and cat food donations will be accepted.

A table specifically for making donations to help support Franklin County’s new K-9 dog, Sitka, a 2-year-old German Shepherd, will be set up. Donations will go toward general equipment and supplies.

Representatives from one or more local animal shelters, including Colbert County, will bring several animals that are up for adoption.

A cornhole tournament will take place, and a raffle for cornhole bags will be held. Raffle tickets are one for $3, four for $10 or 10 for $20. The cost to participate in the tournament is $15 per person, with $5 going to Save Our Strays and $10 going toward the payout for that prize.

“I’m hoping we’ll have at least two, possibly three, double-elimination tournaments,” explained Blue Springs fire chief and Franklin County EMA director Mary Glass. “It’s all according to how many people show up to participate.

“I hope a lot of people come out and support our benefit to help save Franklin County strays.”

Blue Springs VFD is located at 3001 Highway 75 in Phil Campbell.
