Phil Campbell farmers’ market welcomes summer

Phil Campbell is getting a farmers’ market started this week, with opening days June 3-4.

Phil Campbell’s market will welcome sellers of fresh produce only. Setup is free and will take place in the parking lot in front of City Hall.

Operating days will be Fridays and Saturdays.

No yard sale items are allowed.

It’s a move Phil Campbell Mayor Mike McQuary explained has been in the works for a while.

“We’ve had produce stands before but no farmers’ market,” he said. “People in the community have given us ideas, and we’re excited to get this started.”

He said the market will benefit local farmers as well as community members.

“People won’t have to travel as far to get fresh produce. If we get enough participation, we’ll make a permanent location close to the community center.”
