Summer reading fun comes to RPL

Registration is underway through May 31 for Oceans of Possibilities, the Russellville Public Library’s free summer reading program.

Fully sponsored by Pilgrim’s this year, the program will be held for eight weeks, June 3 though July 29, and is open to ages 3-17. Each day’s program will include refreshments. Each event will take place at 2 p.m. at the library, with the exception of the final event.

Each child enrolled will receive a reading log with goals to work toward each week, with small prizes being given away to children reaching their weekly goal. To participate, sign up online through Russellville Public Library’s Facebook page or in person at the library.

Scheduled events include:

  • June 3: The launch party will feature Steve Trash performing a magic show, and kick-off bags will be distributed. Kona Ice will provide flavored shaved ice for children who are registered.
  • June 10: Shirley Jimenez will present “Endless Possibilities of Fruits and Vegetables,” which will include a fish craft using real fruit.
  • June 17: Pilgrim’s mascot Omelet will visit for a special story time. The Russellville Ice Cream Truck will be on site.
  • June 24: Puppeteer Ron Lightly will perform.
  • July 8: Franklin County 4-H regional Extension agent Austin Blankenship will present an educational event that includes an octopus take-home craft bag.
  • July 15: Tyler Thompson will present a STEM activity.
  • July 22: The McWane Science Center will present an Oceans Alive program.
  • July 29: An award ceremony with lots of refreshments will finish the summer’s activities at the Russellville City Pool from 5-7 p.m.
