County softball teams continue through season
The Red Bay Tigers scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to capture a critical area win over the Colbert County Indians 8-5 Monday.
The win puts the Tigers in the driver’s seat to host the area tournament. Red Bay will face Tharptown Thursday, and if the Tigers win, they will host the area tournament in two weeks.
Red Bay trailed 5-4 going into the last inning before going on a one-out rally, scoring four runs, capped off by a two-run single by Ava Oswalt scoring Kayla Blackburn and Lana Bell.
The Tigers got doubles from Emma McCollister and Emma Blackburn. Annaliese Rogers got two hits at the top of Red Bay’s lineup. Bell scored two runs. Oswalt and Emma Blackburn had two RBIs each.
Red Bay 12, Hackleburg 8
McCollister went two-for-two with four RBIs and scored a run in a 12-4 win over Hackleburg.
After a tight game, the Lady Tigers scored five runs in the fourth and three in the sixth to put distance between themselves and the Panthers.
Rogers went two-for-four with an RBI and scored three runs. Hannah Butler had a hit and two RBIs and scored two runs. Oswalt had three hits, including a double, an RBI and scored a run.
Red Bay 8, Shoals Christian 0
Red Bay easily beat the Shoals Christian Flame 8-0.
Audrey Ehler had two hits, two RBIs, and scored a run. Chloe Knoblock and Bell combined to allow no hits against the Flame.
Red Bay 17, Covenant Christian 0
Red Bay scored 11 runs in the first inning to put away the Covenant Christian Eagles quickly.
McCollister had three doubles, three RBIs and scored three runs to lead the way for the Tigers.
Rogers went two-for-two with two RBIs and two runs. Oswalt went two-for-two with an RBI and two runs. Ehler went two-for-three with a double, three RBIs and scored a run. Knoblock went two-for-three with an RBI and scored three runs.
Knoblock also allowed two hits and struck out four from the circle.
Vina 5, Red Bay 4
The Vina Red Devils came from behind to beat the Red Bay Tigers 5-4 Saturday.
Red Bay scored four runs in the first inning to take a 4-0 lead, but Vina scored five unanswered – two in the second, two in the fourth and the game winner in the sixth – to upset the Tigers.
Sara Harper went two-for-three with a double and scored three runs. Kaitlyn Athey had a double and an RBI. Maddie Kirk went two-for-three with an RBI and scored a run.
Aimee Shotts went three and two-thirds innings in the circle, allowing six hits. Athey finished the game off, allowing two hits.
Sarah Eaton had two hits and two RBIs for Red Bay. Rogers had a double and scored a run.
Vina 11, Covenant Christian 2
Vina scored six runs in the first inning and five in the second to run away from the Covenant Christian Eagles 11-2.
Shotts had a double and two RBIs. Athey had a triple and two runs. Harper and Maddie Kirk scored two runs each.
Vina 10, Brilliant 2
A seven-run first inning was all Vina needed to topple the Brilliant Tigers 10-2.
The Red Devils got doubles from Athey, Kass Gesler and Aimee Ridge. Athey also had three RBIs along with A.C. Chandler. K.K. Mitchell and Chandler scored two runs each.
In the circle, Athey allowed five hits and struck out five.
Belgreen 10, Lexington 0
The Belgreen Bulldogs blanked the Lexington Golden Bears 10-0, despite both teams having six hits in the game.
Lexington committed four errors, but Belgreen took advantage of every opportunity on the base paths to get the easy win.
Bryn Scott went two-for-two with two RBIs and scored a run. Makayla Willingham doubled, had three RBIs and scored two runs.
Lily Blackburn pitched four innings, allowing six hits and striking out three.
