Tharptown returns veteran lineup

Anytime a coach takes over a program, it helps to have a core group of experienced veterans to ease the transition. Kamri Fleming, the Wildcats volleyball coach, takes over a softball program in need of stability.

The past two years, coaching changes have been the norm in the oncestable program. Fleming said she hopes to bring some stability and confidence to the program.

“Transitioning to softball has been pretty easy,” said Fleming. “I owe it to the girls and my assistant coaches for making it that way. The majority of the girls played volleyball for me, so they know what to expect and how I like things to be done.”

Some key returning players, like Taylor Cameron, Leslie Staggs and Kyndall Morgan, will be key to that stability.

“I have several returning starters from this past year’s team,” said Fleming. “I feel like defense is going to be one of our strengths this year. Our team needs to work on being confident in the decisions we make and not second guess ourselves.”

Fleming said Tharptown has a strong tradition of success in softball, and the girls want to continue that tradition.

“From the moment we started, it has been very evident that this team wants to do whatever they need to do to have a successful season,” she added. “They have been working hard on the field and in the weight room.  All of the girls are great kids, and I enjoy being around them.

Tharptown is in Class 2A, Area 14, with Red Bay and Colbert County.
