Phil Campbell splits doubleheader

The Phil Campbell Bobcats split a pair of games at Haleyville on a cold, wet Saturday morning. The Bobcats beat Haleyville 14-8 and lost to Central 4-1.

Hunter Baker had two hits and four runs batted in to help lead the Phil Campbell Bobcats to a 14-8 win over the Haleyville Lions.

Phil Campbell got on the board in the first, scoring one run, but left the bases loaded, missing a big opportunity for a big early lead.

Mason Swinney, who had reached base on a single, scored when Baker walked to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.

Haleyville answered in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game.

Phil Campbell reclaimed the lead in the top of the second inning when Jacob Barnwell scored on a ground ball by Cam Habada.

The Bobcats blew the game open in the third inning, scoring six runs to take a 7-1 lead. Eli Taylor doubled in Baker to get things started, giving Phil Campbell a 3-1 lead.

With the bases loaded, Phil Campbell scored four straight runs: Taylor scored when Sage Raper was hit by a pitch; Barnwell and Cole Pace both scored on walks; and finally, Raper scored on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Pace.

Phil Campbell added to the lead two runs in the fourth to take a commanding 9-1 lead.

Haleyville staged a big comeback in the bottom half of the inning, scoring five runs to cut the Bobcat lead to 9-6.

The Lions got closer in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring one more run to cut Phil Campbell’s lead to 9-7.

The Bobcats stopped the rally in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs to take a 13-7 lead. Once again, Baker got things started with a two-RBI single to centerfield, scoring Braxton Mayfield and Habada.

Kyle Pace scored on a passed ball, and Baker scored on a single by Cole Pace.

Habada got the win, going three and a third innings, striking out six and allowing two earned runs.
