Red Bay Tigers notch wins over Deshler, Belmont
Carson Corum made four three–pointers against the Deshler Tigers but none bigger than the half-court heave in overtime to beat Deshler 77-75.
Trailing by 75-74, Corum raced past half court and heaved the ball into the air and into the basket as time expired. The jubilant Tigers leapt into the air in celebration, having knocked off one of the better basketball teams in the Shoals area.
Red Bay jumped out to a 21-14 lead in the first quarter. Deshler cut Red Bay’s lead to 31-28 by halftime. Red Bay extended the lead to 49-44 at the end of the third quarter.
Deshler, however, scratched and clawed back up, outscoring Red Bay 22-17 in the fourth quarter to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Red Bay outscored Deshler 11-9 in overtime, with two three-pointers coming from Corum, including the game winner.
Andrew Ray led Red Bay with 15 points, followed by Corum with 14 points, Landon Glover with 14 points and Lawson Glover with 13 points. Owen Terry added seven points, B.P. Blair five points and Holden Inmon two points.
Red Bay 86, Belmont 52
Red Bay had five players to score in double figures to lead the Tigers past Belmont 86-52.
Red Bay led 42-26 at halftime and 66-46 at the end of the third quarter.
Cody Carnes led Red Bay with 16 points, followed by Corum with 14 points, Landon Glover got 12 points, Lawson Glover had 12 points, and B.P. Blair added 10 points. Andrew Ray added nine points, Holden Inmon six points, Paden Allison three points, Bradan Davis two points, Kennedy Wilemon two points and Gage Edgmon two points.
Red Bay 58, Tharptown 29
Corum scored 17 points to lead the Red Bay Tigers past the Tharptown Wildcats 58-29.
Red Bay led 18-10 at the end of the first quarter and 25-15 at halftime. The Tigers had extended their lead to 45-21 by the end of the third quarter.
Dylan Valdez led Tharptown with 14 points. Tyler Amos added six points, Malachi Minor four points, Blake Daily two points and Edwin Vela two points.
Red Bay splits with Aliceville
Action earlier in January ended meaning a coin flip would decide who would get to host the Class 2A, Area 10 tournament. Aliceville ultimately got the honor.
Both Red Bay and Aliceville were undefeated in their area going into the week. The Tigers won round one Tuesday at Red Bay 50-47, but lost in the rematch in Aliceville, 41-36.
In the meeting at Red Bay, Corum helped the Tigers hold off a late Aliceville run to win the game. Red Bay led Aliceville 22-15 at halftime and had extended their lead to 37-23 at the end of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, however, Aliceville outscored Red Bay 24-13 to give the Tigers a scare. Corum scored seven fourth–quarter points to help hold off the rally.
