Baseball standouts pick up state honors

Baseball standouts pick up state honors

The Alabama Baseball Coaches Association held its annual awards banquet Saturday night in Birmingham to recognize top performances from the past season.

Mason Swinney, the senior middle infielder who helped Phil Campbell to a Class 3A state championship in 2021, was awarded the AHSAA Dual Player of the Year award. This award goes to a player who excels on the mound as a pitcher and in the field. The University of Alabama signee plays middle infield for the Bobcats when he is not on the mound.

Swinney’s coach, Jonathan Raper, and Class 5A Russellville coach Chris Heaps picked up Coach of the Year awards for winning state championships.
