Phil Campbell installs new town welcome signs

Phill Campbell is in the process of installing two new town welcome signs, each at different ends of the town, to take the place of existing signs.

Councilwoman Lynn Landers explained the new signs, designed and made by Gault Signs in Russellville, will represent a significant upgrade over the old ones. Each is made of high quality 1/4-inch thick white ACM aluminum, measure 4 feet by 8 feet and are being installed on metal posts.

“The new signs will provide a better welcome for residents and visitors to Phil Campbell,” said Landers. “They’re much nicer than the old ones.”

She said the vinyl graphics are high performance, outdoor-rated for nine to 12 years – except for the round Phil Campbell train logo. The logo is in full color on the finished signs, and it was digitally printed with an expected outdoor life of approximately five years.

“Each signpost will include an additional, smaller sign about Billy Sherrill, a country music songwriter from Phil Campbell who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2010,” explained Landers.

Among Sherrill’s accomplishments are having co-written “Stand by Your Man” with Tammy Wynette and producing George Jones singing “He Stopped Loving Her Today,” a song written by Bobby Braddock and Curly Putnam.

“We had those the Billy Sherrill signs made previously,” explained Landers. “I’m looking forward to seeing everything in place.”
