Golden Tigers receive post-season football honors

With high school football success comes awards, and the Russellville Golden Tigers are receiving positive recognition for their 2021 season.

RHS went 9-3 in 2021, and the Golden Tigers won Class 5A, Region 8, for the second consecutive year with no losses. Russellville advanced to the second round of the playoffs under head coach John Ritter.

Both Ritter and senior standout Nathan Brockway were invited to the AHSAA North-South game, held in Mobile. Ritter was a member of the coaching staff, and Brockway got playing time in the North’s 14-10 victory.

Two Golden Tigers received honorable mentions for the 2021 5A All-State team. Juniors Conner Warhurst and TJ King were included in the group of football stars for this season.

Both were also atop the list of talented players on the Class 5A, Region 8, team – which was voted on by the coaches in the region. Warhurst, a running back and safety, was voted overall MVP of the region, and King was voted to the first team as a wide receiver.

Brockway, a TE/OLB, added to his list of honors by being named offensive lineman MVP of the region. Manny Martinez was solid all season long and was named region MVP kicker.

Also named to the All-Region first team from Russellville were Boots McCulloch, Gavin Slay, Grayson Thorpe, Gabe Amick, Emitt Green, Martin Tomas, Karson Hyde, Dallan Montgomery and Grayson Murray.

All-Region honorable mention went to Russellville’s Malachi Duncan, Matthew James, Junior Baltazar, Jerrin Jackson and Seth Franks.
