Red Bay fills board vacancy

In its regular meeting Nov. 17, the Red Bay City Council chose Jerry Paul Fancher to fill the unexpired Water and Gas Board term of Red Bay City Councilman Jason Vinson. The term will expire Nov. 6, 2025.

The position was left vacant after the Council’s previous meeting, Nov. 3, when Vinson resigned his position on the Water and Gas Board because of an ongoing battle between the Red Bay Water and Gas and the City Council.

In his resignation Vinson said, in part, “I am not conceding that a City Council member cannot serve on this board, which is the content of the legal matter, but wish to resign so that our great city can move forward.”

The other person nominated for consideration of the position was Judy Bullen.

The council also approved:

  • Solicitation of interest rate bids for the financing of the City of Red Bay Recreation Center. The total amount to be financed is $425,000, with 15-year amortization and 10-year fixed.
  • Resolution authorizing and approving the application for Float Loan funds through the state of Alabama’s CDBG program on behalf of Sunshine Homes Inc.
  • Mayor Charlene Fancher’s request to proclaim Nov. 21-27 as Farm-City Week.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be Nov. 17, with the work session beginning at 3 p.m. and the council meeting beginning at 3:30 p.m. in the Red Bay City Hall, 203 Fourth Ave. SE.

The City of Red Bay will be closed Nov. 2526 for the Thanksgiving holidays. Thursday’s garbage route will run Nov. 24, and Friday’s garbage route will run Nov. 29.
