John “Mark” Swatzell

John “Mark” Swatzell, 61, of Murfreesboro, Tenn., passed away Oct. 1 at NHC Dickson after a hospital stay.

Mark was born in Haleyville. He attended elementary school in Haleyville and high school in Russellville. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in accounting. He was the CFO of several major healthcare corporations in Nashville. He also worked in an IT capacity and later worked for the state of Tennessee as an accountant III. He retired from the state in 2020.

A graveside service will be held Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at Winston Memorial Cemetery in Haleyville.

John is survived by his sister, Susan Wood; brother-in-law, Ronald Wood; and niece, Ashley Wood. He is also survived by many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John and Floia Swatzell, and grandparents, Andrew and Lucy League and Charles and Modelle Swatzell.
