Football faces week five

RHS (5-0) at Hartselle (5-0)

Russellville will host the biggest game in the county Friday night. The undefeated Golden Tigers will host the equally undefeated Hartselle Tigers.

Russellville is averaging 42.2 points per game while giving up 12.4. Hartselle is averaging 37 points per game and giving up 8.75 points.

Russellville is coming off a 43-0 win over Lawrence County. The rival Tigers are coming off an offweek after Columbia had to forfeit.

Hartselle has wins over Austin 29-0, Mae Jemison 41-0, Cullman 35-14 and Decatur 42-21.

PCHS (3-1) hosts Haleyville (1-4)

This is Phil Campbell’s homecoming week, and the Bobcats are hosting Haleyville. The Bobcats are 2-44 all time against the Lions.

The Bobcats are coming off an offweek and should be rested.

The timing is ripe for the Bobcats to get a rare win over Haleyville. The Lions have won only one game and lost this past week to Gordo 380. Phil Campbell is averaging 30 points per game while giving up seven; Haleyville is scoring 16.6 points per game while giving up 33.8.

The Bobcats lost this game this past year 38-21.

THS (2-3) hosts Cherokee (0-4)

This is also Tharptown’s homecoming week, and the Wildcats will host Cherokee.

This is a midseason respite in the middle of a brutal region schedule for the Wildcats. Tharptown beat Cherokee 48-0 this past year.

The Wildcats haven’t had an on-the-field win since the season opener at Shoals Christian. Cherokee has lost all of their games decidedly, losing to Sumiton Christian 46-0, R.A. Hubbard 58-8, Shoals Christian 44-12 and Hackleburg 40-8.

RBHS (1-2) hosts Belmont (1-1)

The Tigers are hosting their cross-state rival Belmont Friday night. The Tigers lead this series 33-21-1 all time and won this past year 22-13.

Red Bay easily beat Tharptown Friday night 54-7 on a rainsoaked field, while Belmont has lost to Tishomingo County, 42-37, and beat Hatley 47-0 this past week.

VHS (0-4) hosts Lynn (0-4)

Vina has had a rough start to the season. If the Red Devils are going to get a win on the board, this looks to be one of their best chances.

Lynn has four bad losses to Addison 28-0, Marion County 29-7, Brilliant 28-27 in overtime and Pickens County 28-7.

Lynn holds an 18-7-1 series advantage. The Bears won this game this past year 56-0.

Vina lost Friday night to Waterloo 46-0.
