Two Bobcats get college scholarships
Phil Campbell Bobcat baseball players continue to reap the rewards of their 2021 run to the Class 3A state championship.
Utility player Austen Baker and middle infielder Luke Barnwell both recently earned scholarships to continue their educations and baseball careers.
Baker will play for Calhoun Community College. Barnwell will play for Bevill State Community College.
“Honestly, it is a dream come true for me to keep playing the game I love,” said Baker, who played third base and outfield and pitched for the Bobcats. “I am very blessed to have the opportunity to play again and get my education.”
Barnwell echoed his teammate’s sentiment.
“I am excited for the opportunity to be able to play at the next level,” he said. “It means a lot to me, and I couldn’t have made it to where I am at today without the support of my parents, teammates and coaches. I am excited and ready to get to work.”
Senior Ridge Raper signed with Wallace State Community College earlier in the year, and junior Mason Swinney has committed to play for the University of Alabama.
