Red Bay Senior Center reopens doors after pandemic close

Things are starting to get back to normal in the City of Red Bay as the community reopened its Senior Center with a welcome back party June 15.

The center welcomed back all of its regulars for an emotional day of activities, food and fellowship.

“It is very emotional to have everyone back,” said Sheila Snider, director of the Red Bay Senior Center. “We are very close with everyone here, so it is just wonderful to get to see them all again.”

Snider said it feels like things are returning to normal, to have everyone back in the center.

“We enjoy them, and we have missed them,” Snider said. “I’m just so excited today.”

Conversations and activities picked up right where they left off before the center had to close, including some citizens working on a puzzle they began but never got to finish before the center closed because of the pandemic.

“It was very difficult for us whenever we had to close,” Snider said. “You worry, and you don’t know when you will get to see people again, so we are thankful to finally be able to be together today.”

Snider said some things will take a while to return completely to normal, such as the bus schedule, but the center is open again for its normal hours, from 8 a.m. until noon Monday through Friday.
