Black Sox travel to Georgia for PBR Classic

The summer travel baseball season for the Black Sox program is heating up, with a number of games resulting in victories for different age groups.

The 17U Black Sox–Black participated in the PBR Classic at the LakePoint Complex in Emerson, Georgia, and took wins in two of three games played June 17-19.

In a contest versus Game On Prospects, the Sox took a 5-2 win. Two Russellville High School varsity pitchers took the mound during the game, with Emitt Green getting the win and Samuel Pace picking up the save.

Green worked four innings, allowing one unearned run. He gave up two hits and struck out five batters.

Pace pitched the final three innings and also allowed an unearned run. The right-hander struck out five and walked one.

A quartet of Russellville batters contributed to the win, as well. Casen Heaps had a double and scored a run. Meanwhile, Eli Gipson and Canyon Pace each had singles, and Banks Langston reached base via a walk.

June 18 the 17U Sox grabbed a 13-2 win over NEO Elite-Red. Pace had two hits, a walk, two RBIs and two runs. Brayden Heaps had a single, two walks, a run and an RBI, while Eli Gipson had a hit, a walk, two RBIs and a run.

The 16U Black Sox also played in the PBR Classic at the LakePoint Complex and had success, going 4-1 in games played June 17-20.

The Sox defeated the Hit After Hit Outlaws of the Nashville, Tenn., area by a 3-2 final score. Phil Campbell was well-represented on the winning team by Cole Pace, Kyle Pace, Cam Habada and Sage Raper. Cole Pace pitched four innings, allowing two runs, with one being earned. He struck out four and allowed four hits. Pace also helped the team with his bat, getting a hit and drawing a walk.

Kyle Pace had two hits and scored a run, while Cam Habada and Sage Raper each had a hit. Habada also had an RBI, and Raper added a walk.

Russellville’s Logan White and Shayden Romans also helped the cause. White had a hit, a walk and he scored a run while Romans picked up a walk and an RBI for the Black Sox.

The 16U Black Sox defeated the Easley Baseball Club of the Memphis area by an 11-3 score June 18.

Logan White got the start on the mound and went six innings for the win. He threw 99 pitches, allowing one unearned run. White struck out five and walked one batter.

Kyle Pace had a triple and three RBIs, and Romans also had a triple. Eli Taylor of Russellville had a hit, a run and two RBIs ,while Brayden Spurgeon of RHS had a single and an RBI. Cole Pace, Habada and Raper all hit safely, with Habada and Raper each scoring two runs. Cole Pace scored a run, and Raper added an RBI.

The Sox were busy on the bases and successfully stole 13 times.
