Red Bay approaches opening of Rec Center

The City of Red Bay is nearing the grand opening of its new Red Bay Recreation Center with the approval of several final items by the city council.

At Wednesday’s city council meeting, the city approved the hiring of temporary summer help for the street department and recreation department, as well as approving the low bid of $33,380 from Page Heating & AC for a heating and air system for the new recreation center.

“We are really excited for this,” said Red Bay Mayor Charlene Fancher. “It is going to offer a whole new world in recreation for us.”

Park and Recreation Director Dean Hubbard said this week workers will begin laying flooring in the recreation center.

Hubbard said the hope is that the new building will be ready to open the first week in June.

“Right now things are going well,” Hubbard said. “We hope things continue to run smoothly so we can get this opened up as soon as possible.”

Hubbard also said the Red Bay Water Park will open May 28 at noon.

There will be no night swim May 28 because of graduation, but the water park should begin normal hours the next day to kick off Memorial Day weekend.
