RMS show choir returns to stage

After a year of canceled shows and virtual performances, Russellville Middle School show choir and drama students are finally getting to return to the stage for their performance of “A Fairytale Frenzy.”

The show will be April 22-23 at 7 p.m. in the Russellville City Schools Auditorium. Admission is $5 at the door.

“The kids who were in “Aladdin” and “Sleeping Beauty,” whose shows were canceled last year – these are those kids,” explained RCS choral director Emily Rush. “These kids have not been able to be on the stage since December 2019.”

Rush said typically this show would be the RMS musical, but because of so many unknowns throughout the school year, the decision was made to hold a concert rather than a musical.

“It is going to be a lot of fairytale favorites,” Rush said. “We are excited to see it.”

The show will feature favorites from the Disney movies “Tangled” and “The Princess and the Frog.” It will also feature small pre-recorded scenes of students acting, spread throughout the show.

“This is the first time we are doing something like this, so we are excited to be doing something different,” Rush said. “Hopefully this goes well and we are able to incorporate this more in our shows in the future.”

Rush said typically students are not given much say concerning which songs are chosen, but this year, things were different.

“I felt like these kids had been through so much in the past year that I wanted this to be something they had a lot of input in,” Rush said. “This time I really let them pick what they wanted to do and let them have fun with it.”

Rush said the show will feature a fun collection of songs and scenes from favorite fairytale moments the audience is sure to enjoy.

“We hope everyone will come out and support these kids while having a fun time,” Rush said. “We are really looking forward to this one.”
