Russellville softball notches successful week

The Russellville Lady Golden Tigers had a busy week on the varsity softball field, winning four of six games.

RHS defeated a county rival, hosted senior night and came in runner-up in a regular-season tournament during recent action on the diamond, which included Jenna Whitfield going 14-for-26 at the plate.

Fallin Cox and Jaiden Calvert also homered for RHS. Maddy Green added two hits, including a double, and Emma Campbell smacked a couple of singles.

Kailee Simpson had the other RHS hit in the contest.

Paislee James and Jacey Moore did the pitching for Russellville. James allowed two runs on two hits over two innings, and Moore pitched three innings allowing one unearned run, and she struck out six batters.

“The seniors stepped up tonight, and they have all season,” said Russellville head coach Josh Graham. “They are a great group of leaders. The girls really fought hard, and they wanted to get that win for the seniors on senior night.”

The Sparkman Tournament got underway April 9, and RHS defeated the home team in the first game.

Whitfield had three hits for Russellville, while Butler had two, and Cox added one. Butler and Cox had doubles and the winning run scored in the final inning when Hubbert put the ball in play and Sparkman made an error.
