Bonner brothers make All-State

Will Bonner and Collin Bonner played major roles in leading the Belgreen Bulldogs to the Class 1A state finals this year, and both have been rewarded with All-State honors by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

Will Bonner was a Class 1A first team All-State selection. His brother Collin earned Class 1A honorable mention honors.

Other Franklin County awardees are Russellville’s Chandler Dyas, who earned Class 5A honorable mention honors, and Red Bay’s Braden Ray, who earned Class 2A honorable mention honors.

Will Bonner, the Bulldogs’ shifty point guard, scored 526 points, dished out 113 assists and pulled down 101 rebounds. He shot 68.6 percent from the field, making 208 of 332 shots, and he was a 77.7 percent free throw shooter, making 157 of 202 shots from the line.

The 5-foot-10 junior reached the 1,000-point career scoring mark early in the season.

Collin Bonner, a 6-foot-1 forward, scored 411 points and grabbed 145 rebounds. He also had 50 blocked shots and 50 steals. He shot 63.1 percent from the field, making 183 of 290 shots.

The lefty played a critical role for the Bulldogs in their final game, going six-for-seven from the field and scoring 12 points in the first half to keep Belgreen in the game.

Dyas scored 490 points and averaged 19.6 points per game. He had 176 rebounds, averaging seven rebounds per game. He also averaged 5.3 assists per game and had 32 blocked shots.

The Millsaps College commit ended his career with the Golden Tigers with 1,327 points.

Ray scored 380 points, averaging 16 points per game. He dished out 96 assists, pulled down 108 rebounds and had 49 steals and 12 blocked shots. Ray shot 83 percent from the freethrow line and made 65 three-pointers.

Ray also made 165 career three-pointers and scored 1,453 career points for the Tigers.
