Phil Campbell readies for softball season

Phil Campbell softball coach Kelby Daniel said he is eager to see his players on the field after a one-year layoff.

“These girls enjoy the opportunity to be together again on the softball field,” said Daniel. “We are ready to get into a daily routine, which has been tough because of the weather.”

Daniel will rely heavily on seniors, many of whom also play basketball.

“Our team is senior-heavy, and we will rely on them to lead our younger girls,” said Daniel. “Many of them play basketball, and they are used to playing at a high level. We want that to translate to the softball field as well.”

Seniors Daniel will be relying on are Autumn Roberson, Trinity Thomas, Katie Thomas, Cayman Quinn, Olivia Taylor and Caitlynn Mills.

“We know every person is dependent on each other to fulfill their role,” Daniel explained. “Our focus this year is more about playing to our standard and not so much a goal of winning a certain number of games. What we achieve on the field will be a direct result of how our players perform as a unit.”

Phil Campbell is in an area with Danville, East Lawrence, and Vinemont.

In action this past week, Phil Campbell beat Addison 7-4. With the game tied in the top of the fifth inning, Kenner Scott roped a two-run double to put the Bobcats on top for good.

Emma Ergle earned the win in the circle while going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scoring a run. Madison Branch went 3-for-3 and scored three runs.

Phil Campbell lost to Elkmont 10-7. Thomas went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Quinn went 3-for-4 and scored two runs scored.
