Tigers build experience in young team
The Red Bay Tigers are looking to make up for lost time as their baseball season gets underway.
“We were real young last year and didn’t get to play a lot,” said Red Bay coach Jamie Lawler. “We didn’t get a chance to get the experience we needed because of the season getting cut short. So this group is eager to get going.”
One of the more experienced players Lawler will be relying on is junior Landon Glover, who will be the team’s top pitcher.
“Landon is already better than he was last year,” said Lawler. “He has more confidence, and he can handle himself on the mound.”
Another veteran player is senior Jazon Foster, who is key pitcher and plays first base and outfield.
“Jazon can play wherever I need him. He is very versatile,” Lawler said.
Red Bay’s younger guys will have to contribute, as well.
“We are still going to be a really young team,” Lawler explained, “but over half the team will be seventh- and eighth-graders. I expect them to be a lot better this year and show a lot of improvement.
“We are going to take it one game at a time, and hopefully we have a shot to make the playoffs.”
Red Bay is in an area with Lamar County and Sulligent.
