Red Bay splits with Mars Hill

The Red Bay Tigers held off a comeback attempt to beat the Mars Hill Panthers 67-57 this past week.

Red Bay big man Lane Shewbart led the Tigers and did it beyond the three-point arch. Shewbart hit three three-pointers en route to his game-high 20 points.

Shewbart scored 10 points in the first quarter. He hit a three-point shot; got underneath the basket to make a layup; forced a foul and made the free throw.

Shewbart and Jalen Vinson’s seven first-quarter points gave Red Bay a 23-6 lead.

Mars Hill got hot in the second quarter, outscoring Red Bay 24-10 to cut the Tiger lead to 33-30 going into halftime.

Red Bay’s other big man, Landon Glover, scored 10 points in the third quarter to help keep the Tigers in the game as the Panthers continued their push. tying the game 47-47.

Vinson scored eight points in the fourth quarter to help Red Bay secure the win 67-57.

Glover and Vinson followed Shewbart in double-digit scoring with 16 points and 15 points respectively. Andrew Ray added seven points, Gage Bays got five points, and Hunter Burks tagged on four points.

GIRLS

Mars Hill 40, Red Bay 37

The Red Bay Tiger girls fell to the Mars Hill Panthers 40-37.

Mars Hill led Red Bay 10-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Tigers tied the game 17-17 at halftime, but the Panthers reclaimed the lead at the end of the third quarter 33-30 and held on for the win.

Macy Faulkner led Red Bay with 11 points. She was followed by Emma McCollister with eight points, Destiny McCollister with eight points, Madeline Ledbetter with three points, Kirsten Scott with three points, Lila Blackburn with two points and Jaycee Vinson with one point.
