COVID cancels junior high tournament

The junior high division of the Franklin County Tournament was canceled Monday afternoon.

The tournament, featuring just the seventh-eighthgrade teams, was to be held at the Phil Campbell High School gym by host East Franklin Dec. 18-19.

Because several teams were in COVID quarantine and no makeup dates are available, the decision was made to cancel the annual tournament this season.

There are major changes coming to varsity basketball, as well.

The Alabama High School Athletic Association and the Alabama Department of Public Health released new requirements Monday limiting basketball occupancy to less than 20 percent capacity. For Franklin County schools, that means each player and cheerleader will receive two tickets per game.

There will be more to come later regarding the AHSAA and ADPH requirements.
