Vina girls get win over Hackleburg, fall to Russellville

Vina had three players in double figures in a 57-43 win over the Hackleburg Panthers this past week.

Hackleburg led Vina 13-8 at the end of the first quarter, but Vina battled back to tie the game at halftime 22-22.

Vina outscored Hackleburg 20-6 in the third quarter to take a 42-28 lead.

Abbie Mitchell led the Red Devils with 21 points, including 16 in the second half alone. Kaitlyn Athey added 15 points, and Sara Scott scored 12 points.

Kassadie Gesler finished the game with four points, Hailey Cantrell had three points, and Abbie Petree tacked on two points.

Russellville 54, Vina 50

Jacey Moore led Russellville past Vina in a tight one, 54-50.

Russellville led Vina 8-7 at the end of the first quarter and extended that lead to 24-20 by halftime.

Vina had a big third quarter, taking a 36-35 lead over the Golden Tigers, but Russellville outscored Vina 19-14 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Jenna Whitfield followed Moore with 12 points. Leah Rushing added nine points, A.B. Oliver got eight points, Fallin Cox four points, Jayna Poss four points and Avery Watts two points.

Vina’s Mitchell led all scorers with 28 points. She went 15-for-23 from the free throw line.

Sara Scott added ten points for Vina. Athey added eight points, Cantrell three points and Autumn Chandler one point.
