Club Chronicles: Cultura Garden Club begins decorating for holidays

The Cultura Garden Club held its November meeting in two separate segments.

The first was the program, Unique Christmas Decorations, in which members participated in attending the Russellville Florist Christmas Premier Nov. 5.

The event featured beautiful decorated trees and wreaths, wonderful ideas for gifts, a gorgeous window display, delicious refreshments and Christmas music performed by pianist Tommy Guinn. This Open House, which lasted the entire weekend, got everyone who attended in the holiday spirit!

The second segment was held Dec. 9, when Garden Club members met at the old firehouse and began work on the Christmas decorations for downtown.  The garland and wreaths were separated, old ribbons and bows removed, lights checked, damaged ornaments replaced and trees and garland fluffed.

New ribbon for bows has been purchased for downtown.

The Garden Club also purchased a Letters to Santa Post Office Box that will be displayed in the Gazebo.

A few more workdays are planned, and hopefully everything will be ready for the Christmas holidays by Nov. 23.

Serving as hostesses for the work session were Cheri McCain, Patricia Cox and Darlene Hester. Sack lunches were distributed to members. Hillary Malone Hall was program chairman for November.

Plans were discussed for the annual Every Light a Prayer for Peace, which will be held Dec. 3 at 4:30 p.m. on the steps of the Franklin County Courthouse. This year the veterans, the frontline workers and first responders will be honored for their services to our country and community.

The Garden Club members are donating toys for the annual Christmas Toys for Tots.

The club’s yearbook gave garden tips on raking and compost leaves; fertilizing trees, shrubs and lawns; digging and storing tender bulbs; bringing house plants indoors and checking leaves and stems for insects; and remembering to recycle.
