Russellville City Schools Board of Education added a new face at its regularly scheduled board meeting Oct. 29, as Kim Stanley Clonts filled previous board member Judy Pounders’ spot.

Clonts is a graduate of the Russellville High School, Class of 1986, and said she has always had a love for RCS and what it gives to the community.

“The school really is the heart of the community, and everything really centers around it,” Clonts said.

Clonts said she never would have pictured herself as a member of the school board, but when a Russellville City Council member approached her about filling a spot, she knew it was an opportunity she wanted to take.

“I just wanted to give back,” Clonts said. “I wanted to be an advocate for the teachers and to help the school continue to grow.”

RCS Superintendent Heath Grimes said Clonts has a lot of new ideas and brings with her a passion for RCS.

“It is always good to have fresh ideas,” Grimes said. “I think she will be able to help us because she is a different set of eyes.”

In high school Clonts was involved in several school activities, including being a majorette and Miss RHS. After graduating from RHS, she moved to Tuscaloosa as a majorette at the University of Alabama and graduated from there with a degree in communications.

She is married to Steve Clonts, and the two are members of Russellville First Baptist Church. Clonts works for the Franklin County Commission as office manager for the highway department.

Clonts said her time as a student at RHS taught her the importance of hard work, which she plans to use to advocate for the teachers and students at RCS.

“I am really excited for this opportunity, and I can’t wait,” Clonts said. “I love this school, and I am excited to be in a position where I am able to serve.”
