Phil Campbell Bobcats trounce Elkmont 62-22

Luke Barnwell and Ridge Raper ran for three touchdowns each as the Phil Cambpell Bobcats ran away from the Elkmont Red Devils 62-22.

“They were doing some things to us in the first half,” said Phil Campbell Coach Kevin Barnwell. He praised Elkmont’s quarterback and receivers and said the Bobcat win was a “testament to our offensive line.”

“They played hard. Scrappy. They got after it,” Barnwell said. “Anytime you have three guys run for 100 yards, your offensive line is doing something right.

Phil Campbell amassed 601 yards in total offense on the night and only allowed Elkmont 267 yards. The Bobcats also had three 100-yard rushers on the night in Bryant Hyde, Barnwell and Raper.

Barnwell completed nine of 13 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 143 yards on 11 carries and three touchdowns. Raper had seven carries for 100 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown. Raper connected on five of six extra points on the night.

Hyde was the Bobcats’ leading rusher on the night with 179 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown.

Phil Campbell scored right out of the starting blocks on an 11-yard run by Raper.  A two-point conversion run by Barnwell gave the Bobcats an 8-0 lead.

Elkmont responded with a touchdown to the tie the game 8-8 with 10:08 to go in the first quarter.

Barnwell broke free and scored on a 68-yard run on the Bobcats’ ensuing drive for a touchdown. Raper added the point-after kick to give Phil Campbell a 15-8 lead.

The Bobcats extended their lead later in the first quarter on a 10-yard pass from Barnwell to Raper. Raper added the PAT to give Phil Campbell a 22-8 lead with 3:25 to go in the first quarter.

Elkmont cut Phil Campbell’s lead to 22-16 on a 27-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter.

Phil Cambell put together a solid drive capped off by a two-yard run by Raper to give the Bobcats 29-16 lead.

Elkmont wouldn’t give up, scoring again with 5:58 to go in the first half on a 65-yard run to make the score 29-22.

It would be all Phil Campbell from there. The Bobcats went on to score 33 unanswered points on five touchdowns.

Andrew Green had a pick-six for the Bobcats, intercepting an Elkmont pass and taking it to the endzone to extend Phil Campbell’s lead to 56-22, and Kyle Pace added a final late touchdown for the Bobcats with 3:45 to go in the game to notch the final score.

Phil Campbell will travel to Clements Friday night to take on the Colts, coached by former Bobcat coach Michael Parker.

“Clements is a well-coached team,” said Barnwell. “They are very sound. They will be the best team we have played so far. They are very athletic.

“We will have to play much better to contain their quarterback and other athletes.”
