FCSO nabs couple for manslaughter

Two are in jail on manslaughter charges after a 3-year-old was found unresponsive in a car Sunday afternoon in Hodges.

The parents, Dakota Heath Fowler, age 20, and Brandi Michelle Burks, age 21, said when they woke up around 3 p.m. they could not find the child.

The child was later found unresponsive in a car off of Church Street in Hodges. The child was pronounced dead after EMS was unsuccessful in reviving him.

“It is just a tragic situation that this type of neglect goes on, especially with children,” said Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver.

The parents said they had not seen the child since they put him to be around midnight the night before.

Oliver said the child’s body has been sent to the Department of Forensics for an autopsy. The case is still under investigation.
