Council holds first pinning ceremony for new fire recruit

Russellville City Council held its first pinning ceremony at Monday night’s city council meeting as Noah Daugherty was sworn in as a Russellville firefighter.

Fire Chief Joe Mansell said he has always wanted to hold a pinning ceremony for new recruits. “Hopefully we can make this a trend where from now on all new recruits can have a pinning ceremony like this,” Mansell said.

Daugherty took his oath as a firefighter in front of the city council and received his pin from Mayor David Grissom.

“This is the world’s most honored and most dangerous occupation,” Mansell said. “We appreciate you for joining this family.”

In another special presentation, Grissom received a certificate of election to indicate being elected for another term in the office of mayor beginning in November.

Although Russellville municipal elections aren’t until Aug. 25, Grissom has already been elected for an additional term as mayor after running unopposed.

“It’s been an honor to serve,” Grissom said. “I’d like to thank the citizens of Russellville for their support. I look forward to continuing to move Russellville forward. Thank you for allowing me to serve.”
