Hillary Malone Hall announces city council candidacy

Russellville banker Hillary Malone Hall is excited to announce her candidacy for Russellville City Council District 5.

A native of Russellville and a graduate of Russellville High School, Hall not only has a strong financial background but extensive leadership and management skills. She has been serving the community for 24 years in the financial sector and 15 of those in a management position. She is also a small business owner of Bennett Hall, a historic home located in downtown Russellville that serves as a local event venue, receiving the 2016 Beautification Award.

She attended the University of North Alabama and Northwest-Shoals Community College. She currently serves as vice chairperson of the Russellville Public Library Board of Directors, a director on the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, past president of the Russellville Cultura Garden Club and member of Book Lover’s Study Club.

She also directed and wrote “The Roxy’s Christmas Spectacular,” which was recently awarded the 2020 Franklin County Best Kept Secret award.

Hall was the proud recipient of the 2018 Franklin County Volunteer of the Year Award for her dedicated work to continue to better the lives of all residents of Russellville and Franklin County.  She serves as the committee chairperson for the Christmas Decorations Committee for the historic downtown district, where she designed the decorations.

Under Hall’s leadership, she wants to see a new location for the Russellville Public Library. The library is a vital asset to all communities, and it has been long forgotten in our city. The library houses many great resources for all patrons, especially use of broadband internet due to limited rural access for many patrons in our area.

With Hall’s motivation and determination, she will work toward obtaining funding from both state and federal grants for improved roads, bridges and sidewalks, which are in much need of repair in District 5. She believes we must act now to preserve and improve our infrastructure for the betterment of all residents.

As downtown areas across the country continue to flourish, Hall would like to continue to work with the revitalization of the downtown district by bringing in new businesses and continuing to promote current businesses. She would like to continue to promote Russellville across the state to be a go-to destination for its lakes, festivals and tourism.

Hall will be an advocate for all city employees, as all are vital in making the city run efficiently. She will work to promote and listen to the needs of police, fire and street departments, along with all utility departments. “Our first responders are important, and I will continue to support their many needs,” Hall said.

“As a daughter of a veteran, I will always have the utmost respect for all veterans and active duty military.

“As a parent, I know each child is different and must be provided education choices that elicit their personal best and should receive a high-quality education. Our children are the future of our city, and we need to continue to promote our city for additional industry and recruitment of other businesses that will provide opportunities for our future growth.

“Just as our children are the future of our city, we must not forget our seniors, who hold the key to our city.  They were here long before us, and we need to look to their wisdom and guidance to continue to grow Russellville. We must not overlook our history and our heritage, from which our city was built upon.”

Hard work and innovative thinking by people such as her grandfather, former Russellville mayor Hayes Malone, has brought the city to this point and preserved rich history in Russellville. Both of her grandparents were small business owners, which is the backbone of the economy.

Hall is the daughter of Susie Hovater Malone and Thomas “Tinker” Malone. Along with her two daughters, Cameron and Catherine, she attends Russellville First Baptist Church.

Hall would like to humbly ask you for your vote Aug. 25 to represent every constituent in District 5 and all citizens of Russellville with honesty and integrity.
