Russellville’s Edgar Amaya commits to Kansas

Russellville High School football standout Edgar Amaya has made public his future plans.  The junior offensive lineman committed May 1 to the University of Kansas.

As offers continue to roll in from numerous colleges and universities for the versatile blocker who can play any position on the offensive line, Amaya went ahead and made a commitment to the Big 12 Conference Jayhawks before his senior season 2020 begins at RHS.

Recruiting site rivals.com has Amaya listed as a 6-foot-3, 300-pound three-star athlete with offers from schools such as Illinois, Navy, Tulane, Dartmouth, North Alabama, Jacksonville State and Samford, to name a few. The early signing period for high school players to make their college choice official is scheduled to be in December.

If college football is played in 2020, Kansas will be led by head coach Les Miles, who will be entering into his second season there. Miles coached at LSU from 2005-2016 and led the Tigers to a BCS national championship in 2007. He was also head coach at Oklahoma State from 2001-04 and has a career record of 145-64.

Amaya has been recruited at Kansas by Miles, offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon and offensive line coach Luke Meadows.

Dearmon served one year as head coach at his alma mater, Bethel University, before joining the KU staff. He also spent two seasons as an analyst at Auburn under Gus Malzahn during 2013 and 2014. Additionally, Dearmon was offensive coordinator at Vigor High School for three years and was part of the coaching staff that defeated Russellville by a 50-30 score in the 2008 Class 5A state championship game at Legion Field.

Meadows is a graduate of South Dakota State and has many years of coaching experience with stops at Eastern Michigan, Southern Miss and Florida Atlantic among others. He has coached a large number of All-Americans and all-conference players in his career including many that have made it to the NFL.
