Softball: Kelby Daniel leads Bobcats

Kelby Daniel is not new to working with young athletes. He’s coached and trained many players in the past and said he is looking forward to getting back on the field with a team.

“It’s good to be back out here,” said Daniel, who also serves as Phil Campbell’s assistant principal. “The girls have shown a great willingness to work and get better.”

Getting better every day is Daniel’s goal for the Bobcats.

“I have to be patient and help them learn and grow,” Daniel said. “I can’t take things for granted. We are working on basic fundamentals, and we need to be sound in that respect.”

Phil Campbell will be a senior-led team, Daniel explained.

“We have to grow and mature as a team and improve every day.”

He also said he sees the players’ parents as a positive force for his team.

“These kids come to work every day,” said Daniel. “They are willing to work, and that shows they have a lot of support at home, and they are being pushed at home.

“The big things for us will be our attitude as the years goes on,” Daniel explained, “and our ability to overcome roadblocks that will pop up along the way.”

Phil Campbell will compete in an area with Colbert Heights and East Lawrence.
