Baseball: Lawler prepares to rebuild RB program

Jamie Lawler has a tall task ahead of him in rebuilding a Red Bay baseball program that returns one starter.

Lawler, who comes to Red Bay from Fayette High School, replaces Richard Maggerise, who took the Tigers to the playoffs the past two years.

“This year our goal is to get better at something every day,” said Lawler. “We are starting from the ground up with fundamentals, fundamentals, fundamentals. It is not going to happen overnight, but we want to be better at the end of the year than we are now.”

The Tigers’ lone returning starter is Kaleb Bragwell.

“We are very young and inexperienced,” said Lawler. “Some have never played the game, especially at the varsity level.”

Lawler said he is excited about the enthusiasm his team brings to practice every day.

“Their work ethic has been outstanding,” said Lawler. “They do exactly what we ask them to do. Work ethic can overcome lack of experience. These guys have a willingness to learn and advance their skills.”

Red Bay competes in an area with Tharptown, Sheffield, and Colbert County.
