Red Bay captures area title

Lane Shewbart propelled the Red Bay Tigers to the 2A Area 13 title, scoring 26 points in a 79-56 win over the Sulligent Blue Devils.

Red Bay hosts the Sheffield Bulldogs in the subregion Tuesday night in a rematch from last year’s nail biter.

Red Bay led Sulligent for the entire game but pulled away in the third quarter. The Tigers led 18-13 at the end of the first quarter and 31-24 at halftime.

Shewbart, the Tigers’ big post player, stepped out of the lane and knocked down two three-pointers and went seven for seven from the free throw line to help Red Bay outscore the Blue Devils 24-10 in the third period and take a 55-34 lead.

Red Bay went 25-for-33 from the free throw line, including 17-for-22 in the second half.

Tanner Hamilton went seven for seven from the line and scored 15 points.

Clay Allison, Jalen Vinson and Braden Ray added eight points each. Landon Glover added five points, Hunter Burks four points, Jayden Anderson three points and Gage Bays two points.

Semifinals: Red Bay 59, Winston County 48

Red Bay jumped out to a 20-9 first quarter lead and extended the lead to 35-18 by halftime, effectively putting the game away.
