Belgreen cruises to area title

The Belgreen Bulldogs didn’t face a serious challenge to the 1A Area 12 title. The Bulldogs destroyed the Brilliant Tigers to win the championship.

The game was over practically before it even started. Belgreen jumped out to an overwhelming 40-12 lead in the the first quarter alone.

Will Bonner, the game’s leading scorer, scored all 23 of his points in the first quarter.

Belgreen led 60-20 at the half and cruised to the easy win.

The Bulldogs host Mars Hill in the subregion Tuesday night.

Scout Bragwell added 13 points for Belgreen. Collin Bonner, David Plott and Hadden Taylor all scored 11 points each for the Bulldogs. Alex Betts added nine points, Isac Willingham seven points, Will Donahoe five points, Bryant Hubbert four points, Austin James three points and Brodie Vandiver three points.

Semifinals: Belgreen 71, Hackleburg 43

Belgreen asserted clear dominance from the start in the semifinals of the Class 1A Area 12 tournament. Belgreen put the game away by the end of the first quarter, shutting out the Hackleburg Panthers 26-0. Will Bonner scored 11 of those first-quarter points.

Will Bonner ended the game with 22 points. Collin Bonner added 15 points. Bragwell hit four three-pointers, scoring 13 points. Willingham added nine points and Hubbert six points. Plott, Taylor and Donahoe scored two points each. Vandiver added a point.

Quarterfinals: Hackleburg 58, Vina 41

Hackleburg raced out to an early lead over Vina and held on to win 58-41 in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A, Area 12 boys tournament.

Hackleburg led 27-17 at halftime and 45-30 at the end of the third quarter.

Braden Moomaw led Vina with 12 points, followed by Hunter Griffith with 10 points. Nate Stidham added eight points, Dawson Miller six points and Cayden Lawler six points.

The loss ended Vina’s season.
