THS’ Shaylee Wieting signs with Coastal Alabama

Senior multi-sport athlete Shaylee Wieting signed a softball scholarship with Coastal Alabama Community College last week.

Wieting, who will begin her fifth and final season this spring, has been a mainstay at the top of the lineup for the Tharptown Wildcats.

“This has been a dream of mine,” said Wieting. “I have always wanted the opportunity to play in college; now I have my chance.”

Wieting has a career batting average of .460 and an on-base percentage of .535. She has scored 190 career runs.

Coastal Alabama softball coach Mallory Radwitch said she was impressed with Wieting the first time she saw her play travel softball.

“Shaylee is a go-getter,” said Radwitch. “I noticed her spunk right off the bat. She gives 100 percent on the field at all times, and she can play multiple positions.”

Radwitch said she expects Wieting will play the outfield because of her speed.

“Shaylee’s speed is a great asset for an outfielder,” said Radwitch.
