PC boys open season with win

Shane Clay got his coaching career off to a good start at Phil Campbell Nov. 18. The Bobcats picked up a season-opening win over the Carbon Hill Bulldogs 55-43 behind 30 points from Luke Garrison.

Garrison hit five three-pointers in the first half and six for the game.

Phil Campbell led Carbon Hill 20-8 at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 36-19 at halftime.

Carbon Hill outpaced the Bobcats 24-19 in the second half, but the damage had been done by Garrison and Phil Campbell.

Ben Williams and Brett Saint added six points each. Nate Orrick and Blaine Goodson had four points each. Jonah Fisher had two points.

Boys fall to Belmont

The Phil Campbell Bobcats fell to the Belmont (Miss.) Cardinals 64-56 Nov. 19 despite having three players hit the double-figures mark.

Belmont led Phil Campbell 19-12 at the end of the first quarter and 32-20 at halftime. Phil Campbell closed the gap to seven, 42-35, by the end of the third quarter.

Both teams ramped up the scoring in the fourth quarter, with Belmont outscoring Phil Campbell 22-21.

Saint led the Bobcats with 16 points. He was followed by Williams with 15 points and Garrison with 14 points. Fisher added five points. Trenton McCulloch, Orrick and John Randle Herring scored two points each.

Bobcat teams take losses at Rogers

Both the Phil Campbell varsity boys and varsity girls lost to the Rogers Pirates Friday night.

The Lady Bobcats lost to the Pirates 50-39. Rogers led Phil Campbell 16-12 at the end of the first quarter, but Phil Campbell came back to tie the game 27-27 at halftime. Rogers reclaimed the lead by the end of the third quarter, 38-31, and continued to pull away in the fourth quarter.

Katie Thomas led the Bobcats with 13 points. She was followed by Caitlyn Mills with 12 points.

In the varsity boys game, Saint led the Bobcats in their loss with 20 points. Garrison followed with 13 points. Fisher and Easton Cummings scored three points each. Williams and Julian Jimemez scored two points each.
